Matt the Miller’s Tavern founder Craig Barnum may be focusing on that brand as his main growth vehicle, but he’s cooking up some other ideas with expansion potential as well.

Columbus-based CLB Restaurants, thanks to a new corporate structure and an influx of capital, is growing Matt the Miller’s with hopes to hit several new markets in the Midwest in the coming years. Barnum, CLB Restaurants’ president, told me other restaurants are in the works too.

More growth is on tap for Matt the Miller’s Tavern. The Columbus-based chain owned by CLB Restaurants has a new restaurant in the works at Polaris, the first of what could be an additional two eateries annually for the young chain.

“I like it up there,” CLB President Craig Barnum told me of Polaris. “We’re not an O’Charley’s or Max & Erma’s, but we’re not a Mitchell’s (Steakhouse) or Eddie Merlot’s either.”

The Historic Dublin restaurant at 35 N. High St. has been closed for about three weeks and owner Craig Barnum said returning customers might not recognize the place when it tentatively reopens at 4 p.m. April 5.

The third restaurant in a mini-chain (the other two being in Ohio), Matt The Miller’s Tavern has hit the ground running in its upscale location in the Carmel Arts and Design district.

Now in its third week of operation, the place is jam-packed after 5 p.m. and clearly already enjoying some repeat business. On my first visit for lunch last week, I was quickly impressed by the staff’s excellent product knowledge and confident recommendations. Friendly and unpretentious, they immediately made me feel welcome and unhurried.

Tucci’s has a new middle name, although the old one (“wood-fired”) still can be seen above the door. On a recent visit, the Dublin restaurant was packed with a lot of folks who appeared to be enjoying themselves, so think about getting a reservation, particularly if you want to go Friday or Saturday.

I was impressed with the service. The waitperson arrived promptly, paid good attention to us and the food came out nicely paced, even when they were busy.
